The Chicago International Film Festival celebrates its semicentennial, beginning with a screening of Miss Julie on Thursday, October 9 at Chicago’s Harris Theater. The film brings both director Liv Ullmann and actor Colin Firth to the Chicagoland area, in what’s a precursor to over a week’s worth of international cinema and celebrity sightings. With the recognition of being the longest running international film festival in North America, the festival has amassed a healthy collection of retrospective screenings in addition to its usual crop of vetted international prospects. Fifty years in and the festival remains the most significant cultural force among Chicago’s cinema literati.
