"La La Land" (Summit Entertainment/Lionsgate)

I'm writing this in late November during my Thanksgiving break as I stare at an untouched screener pile that includes the likes of Jackie to Trolls to Captain American: Civil War. All of these films ask for consideration in the Best Picture race; one of these is unlike the other two.

Of the recent viewings I've encountered, it's Hidden Figures that I anticipate will shake up the Best Picture lineup - it could very well take a similar path to The Help, which it shares a thematic and formal connection with.

Otherwise, the initial trailer for Silence looks as promising as we all hoped, but is it too late?
